The social struggle in tupac's song, "changes."
Another song of his that is directed towards the people of the world to enlighten awareness is in his song “Changes”. It is almost hard not to quote the entire song because the entire song covers a wide range of topics from police brutality to gang violence to racism. The lyric that most appeals to me is telling listeners that we have to change our ways, the government needs to change their priorities. In order to create peace and solve the issue of poverty, we need to change how we run things in our country. The lyric goes:
“We gotta make a change...It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes. Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live and let's change the way we treat each other. You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do what we gotta do, to survive.” (Changes, 1994)
Once again I must stress that choosing a lyric from this song was a difficult task at hand because the entire song touches a spot in the heart by explaining different situations that need to be changed in our society. I encourage anyone that has never heard this song to take the time to really listen to the lyrics of “Changes” by Tupac to realize that rap lyrics makes you more aware of struggles within society. Songs like this really hit social struggles into your life by making it relevant to all listeners.
